Black River Gorges National Park is a lush rainforest reserve in southwest Mauritius, famous for its hiking trails and rare wildlife like the Mauritius kestrel. The climate is tropical; winter from May to October is cooler (around 68°F/20°C) and dry, perfect for tackling the 7-mile trail to the Black River Peak viewpoint. Summer from November to April brings warmth and rain (about 86°F/30°C), ideal for seeing the Chamarel Waterfall at its fullest and spotting endemic birds without the crowds.
