Haryana is a northern Indian state surrounding Delhi, with an extreme climate: scorching summers up to 45°C (113°F) and chilly winters dropping to 1°C (34°F). It's famous for its dairy farms and the ancient battlefield of Kurukshetra, where the Mahabharata war was fought. Visit between October and March to explore Kurukshetra's temples and Brahma Sarovar without the heat, or come in February for the Surajkund Crafts Mela showcasing Indian folk art. Summers are best for hiking in Morni Hills, the state's only hill station, while winters offer prime birdwatching at Sultanpur National Park.
