Bihar is a state in eastern India with a subtropical climate, famous as the birthplace of Buddhism and home to the ancient Nalanda University, a 5th-century center of learning. Winters from October to March bring mild temperatures between 50°F and 68°F (10°C to 20°C), perfect for exploring the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, where Buddha attained enlightenment, or walking through the Nalanda ruins. Summers soar to 104°F (40°C), but that's when you can visit the hill station of Rajgir for hot springs and cable car rides, or take a boat on the Ganges at Patna's Gandhi Ghat during early morning.
