Salzkammergut is a stunning lake district in Austria, about an hour east of Salzburg. The region is famous for its crystal-clear lakes like Hallstatt and Wolfgangsee, and you can swim or kayak in them when summer temperatures hit 77°F (25°C). In winter, when it drops to around 30°F (-1°C), the same lakes freeze over, making them perfect for ice skating or cross-country skiing with views of the Dachstein Mountains.
